    replacing temperature gauge sender,suitable sealant?

    sais in haynes manual that
'suitable sealant will be required to to coat sender threads on refitting'
is it needed or can i just refit it without.
    whats suitable sealant?

    thanks

never put anything on any sensors into the water system, never had a leak as yet touch wood, but if you have some ptfe tape kicking about then no harm in giving it a once round wrap i spose :D
