    oil pressure question

    Hi all,

Just a quick question. What should be oil pressure gauge indicate on idle and while driving, providing the engine is healthy?

    Thanks!

my engine seems a sound one compression good and even across the cylinders, performance is good well it will pull to limiter in top so guess not much wrong with it. at tickover when hot oil gauge reads just above 1 bar when moving and again when hot 3-4 bar at around 3k when cold at tickover usually 5-6 bar when moving 4-5 bar at around 3k these figures are all affected by outside temp and gauge accuracy which i suspect is not that good

New Engine: Cold start, just over 3 bar in warm outside conditions, about 4 bar when cold out. Driving from cold is about 5 bar.

When hot at idle just over 1 bar, and driving about its about 3-4 bar depending on revs.

Previous engine sat at 0 bar when warm and 2 bar on cold idle, as did my valver.

Cool, thanks for that. Looks like mine is within the norm.

My hot idle is about 0.5 bar and driving about 3+. I'll top the oil up a bit and that should keep it out of trouble.

I had someone suggesting that if hot idle is close to 0 bar then the engine is gonna go BANG shortly. But I'm glad that's not the case. :D

Fair enough. But I mean providing the one on my car works correctly, do I need to be alarmed?

I'll top the oil up today and check the reading again.

Hot idle can get down to 0, it depends on the oil used. That's normal on the F7R. Just make sure it get up to between 2+ to 3+ when hot running at 3000 rpm.

The hot idle was near 0 than 0.5. with revs i struggled to get it to even 3 bar when hot.
That combined with that rattle, and your oil smelling of petrol...
