    Welding....

I know absolutely jack shit about welding.

    Here's my question.

16v needs new sills and arches need attention.

My next door neighbour is a welder by trade.

If a welder is decent, should he be able to do a job like this on a driveway or home garage or does it need correct conditions, i.e proper set up inside to do a decent job?

Might seem a silly question but just putting feelers out before I ask him and he takes offence to me saying 'cant do job outside mate', lol!

    :o

like anything m8 you always want ideally the best working conditions but this sort of work could be carried out on your driveway obviously when the weather is suitable
if your neighbour is a qualified/experienced welder then nothing lost on just asking and could save yourself a few quid

tbh mate. a decent welder will be able to do it no matter where it is tbh. obviously, if hes migging, its not gunna happen in the rain. but theres no need for workshop space.

Depends how precious he is about crawling around under a rusty car on a drive-way....not the most pleasant of jobs.

Plus if its only slightly breezy it will cause issues with the gas not shielding the weld properly.

it's possible to do a decent job on the floor at home. A lot of the limitation when it's done at home is the welding set that's used. A pro machine can be a lot quicker and easier to get good results with. Depends if he's good with sheet metal too, it's harder to get good clean welds on thin material than heavy stuff.
