    Smelling Fuel..........GOOD

    Hi guys,

Finally got myself a willy 2 although driving around I have noticed a fuel smell.
Strangely I can only smell the fuel when I have the window open.

Gonna take some things apart and have a good look around on the weekend but just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

    A fuel breather??

The gauge doesn't work either once the level gets to around a quarter so perhaps this could be related, i.e. an issue where the gauge sits in the tank.

    Any ideas will be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Dan

Have a look at the big seal/washer at the top of the tank, where the fuel pump goes,I have just had mine done and also the wifes valver.

Follow the fuel line hoses from under the car, from where the driver sits, up into the 'bay on the right hand side, past aux belt as mentioned (can rub belt and cause leak), up to the fuel rail (can leak on rail if not secured). Wear goggles if you start pulling them about. Almost lost my sight when I had petrol in the face once...

Also, under the rear seat is the fuel pump, covered by a plastic top. Pop it off and check the lines there too and give em a sniff.

Smell around the offside rear wheel arch as well. Probably not a tank leak though.

Could be carbon cannister breather hose I guess too...
