    is it possible to clean up brake discs...

    the cars been sitting for over a year but occasionally goes out for a a spin to turn it over, the discs were new at the time but are now pretty rusty and rough. is it possible to clean them back to new at all?

    just drive it steady for a few miles with alot of breaking will clean them up

    if that doesnt work take the discs off and use a wire brush on a drill extension. u can also re surface the pads with a sanding block

    It's the best way, beats a wire brush anyday, and works better.

    If you were to buy a brand spanking new car, that is probably nearly a year old and been sitting in a field, dockside or forecourt somewhere, how do you think the discs would be cleaned up, it's perfectly acceptable, cheaper and quicker. If there is a lot of rust at the edge of the disc, outside of the pad area, remove the wheel place a large flat blade screwdriver on the top of the caliper with the blade flush against the disc and turn the disc, that will remove the worst. If the discs are quite new I doubt there will be that much build-up though. A 100 mile drive will have them shiney as new again.
