    Manual steering rack

Ok what parts do i need?

How hard is it to do?

I have changed one before but not swapped from PAS to manual?
Do i need to swap the column as well?

how do i remove the pump from the engine also, do i just remove it them replace the belt?

    Any help tis great.

Ps car is a 1.4 Rt with a 1.8 16v engine, if that makes any diff

You need the manual rack obviously...plus the manual column becuause its a different length.

Beyond that you need to remove the whole pas/alt bracket off the engine (the big metal thing that spans accross the front of the engine) and replace it with 1.7 GTX/volvo brackets and belt, retianing your 16v alt.

I know you have to replace the pas pump with a RS idler pulley, that way you just use the std belt

Not sure about the rest, would like to know as I want to do this to my valver eventually

If you can find one that'd be the easiest!

They're rarer than rocking horse shit tho hence using reno/volvo parts as an alternative.

or leave the pump in and pour a bit of thin oil in every so often to stop it seizing

    Pikey! lol

That wouldn't give you the power gain though.

technically the power gain would still be there as if the pump isnt pumping anything it will have very little resistance so will be just like an idler.
still the easiest way is to get alternator bracket from 1700 volvo/renault engine and remove brackets and pump completely.
