Thread: £700 MOT :-(

    £700 MOT :-(

Just got the call - the MOT has cost about £670 :(

Replace nearside front wheel bearing (not on the MOT but I thought it was fooked so got it done)
    Replace rear handbrake cable x1
Replace rear caliper (supplied by me)
Chop out old and weld in new nearside rear outer sill subframe mounting
    Get the MOT done

I think that costs will break down as something like:

4.5 hours for the bearing and caliper and cable (so could be £225?)
    £225 for the sill parts/welding (I think?)
    £50 for the bearing
    £20 for the cable
    £50 for the MOT

which makes £570, which is almost the £677 when you add VAT on top, so I guess it's right...

    Just seems a lot :(

At least I've got the £20 refund on the caliper I supplied to come back... lol

Sucks, but tbh thats a fair bit of work and should have you sorted for a good time to come. I am dreading my MOT...the sills are not in great shape.

I'll be able to give you a quote using mine as basis when I get back from the garage lol

Right then, off to have a half hour walk to get it.

    Goodbye money lol

    Ouch.

Don't think i could pay someone that much money to work on my car but then i'm fairly ok with most things mechanical.

Think it came out at £408 labour, which must be 8 hours @ £51/hour.

    Parts were relatively cheap really!

I wanted to have a go at doing the mechanical bits myself but having read the haynes manual and looked on here at the problems people have had doing their brakes, I didn't think I'd be able to do it :(

And welding is definitely not something that I can do! lol

    Ho hum, it's spent now.

Cheaper than depreciation on a new car I guess...

I've heard of a lot higher than £51/hour tbh.
