    finding the thermostat

Hi all, Ive just today bought a thermostat for £11 at the local andrew page car parts dealer,

I also have been trying to find the thing, I have a haynes manual with me but still couldnt figure where abouts on the engine it is....

Its a clio 16v 1.8 ph1 mk1 1992 and any help or diagrams on where it should be located would be much appreciated¬!

look on the side of the cylinder head above the gearbox, theres a alli housing bolted to the head, has several pipes and sensors on it, you need to take that off to get it out.

    As above!

It's kind of just underneath and to the left of the dizzy cap.

Stand with your feet each side of the nearside front wheel, facing the enging, and it's almost directly in front of you.

If someone can post a picture then we can point it out! lol

there are 5 torx bolts holding it on (T30?)

be very careful as they have a habit of rounding! trying hammering the torx bit into the bolt gently before undoing

Ok, I think this is the right location, if my memory serves me correctly...

You can't actually see the thermostat as it's housed under a big lump of metal with tubes coming out of it, and is held on with Torx screws, as mentioned above.

As you start to undo the screws, you should start to get coolant leak out, which will end up draining your header tank until there's no more coolant in the system above the level of the thermostat lol

I hope you got a new rubber gasket that goes round the thermostat as the old one gets manky!

get some new bolts before you attempt to take it off, they will no doubt round off, nearly all mine did
