why do people do it!

i bought an engine and gearbox of someone off here finanly got it up and running and within 15 minutes of startin it the oil filler cap and dipstick was covered in a milky substance obviously head gasket has gone it wasnt asif i got the engine cheap either it does wind me up

I personally would have changed the headgasket as a matter of course while the engine was out.

Are you sure its not just from moisture build up because its been sitting? (im not the seller )

did u drain the sump before you started the motor? could have been water in the oil etc,
