If your good with a spanner why not offer mobile-mechanic service??

Ive applied for countless courier jobs, not a single reply from any of them, ive applied for helphire recently and they seem very friendly and sometimes call me for informal chats etc, ive been trying out a bit of the mobile mechanic side of things and i do love it, But its mainly freinds car and for £5 an hour (mates rates) i dont know if i like lying under cars replacing clutches, gearbox's and cambelts etc in the rain and wind, theres a few tuning companys down here, Which im going to drop cv's into, theres no harm in trying...

I know what you mean with regards to friends and people you dont really want to see. I'm in a similar situation, I do like my job I just really felt a need for change. Everything has just gone stale so I applied to go back to uni. It made sense for me. Whatever you want to do you can find a course for it, get out and see some new faces away from home. I'm off this September hopefully and I cant wait.
Up untill the age of 25, you are eligible for the same loans/grants etc that you were when you left college so keeping a car is feasable enough if you have a part time job. I know a few people off here have done it.
I know it might not be what your after but it's what I decided on so I thought I'd chip in.
Or there is the police? There are lots of different career's in the army aswell. Both offer oppertunities to work away, depends if you prefer bognor or baghdad

My Dads a lorry driver, he says the money isnt that good, but i think it would be something i'd enjoy he lives in southampton and said he could get me sorted out if i went up there for a bit, problem is mum and dad are seperated and mum would go nuts if she thought i moved out to live with him, thats how she would see it, so i can go anywhere but there! lol but like you say, theres always work available, my uncle drives lorry's too and is always switching firms! lol whats the limit you can drive up to on a lgv gaz? 7500kg? or is it Rigid trailer? i know all i can drive at the moment is 3500kg and ive driven things that weigh more than that (on private road obviously)

i upped sticks and moved to sheffield in 2005 mate, went with no job, just quit my old job and went temping, ended up as a printer, and they offered me a full time position after 6 months working there. i had no experience in the job before them and the offer was not bad tbh for something to keep me ticking over.thankfully i got offered my current job aswell at the same time and took that as its heading towards what i want to do. thing is to just stick at it and not get down about rejections or no acknowledgement, something will evetually crop up, usually more than one at once, just keep hammering your cv to anything you can and pester the hell out of the agencies, as in ring them at least everyday, they'll place you eventually if you keep badgering them.

hardest part about leaving where i grew up was and still is mates, i see mine rarely now, but as kj says, the best mates i have i'm still close to so it doesnt matter that i only see them at christmas n birthdays etc. and in some ways its good to as you say get out in the world and have a fresh start and prove your independance to yourself.

Sounds good coops! good on you! This agency thing im not sure about, what kind of jobs are they going to offer me and dont they take a cut out your pay?? theres millions of agencys around too, tbh i think it would be an adventure, getting a job away from everyone i know, even if i go for a little while might give me a few months break from Great Cornwall...

Like Coops and I said. Temping could give you the break you need. There's agenices that specialise in different areas: Office, warehouse, engineering, etc.

Also, no offence but could it be that maybe your CV and interview technique aren't up to scratch? Maybe worth getting some books from the library on CVs and job interviews. Might be all you need.

Agencies dont take a cut out of you pay. I used to be a recruitment consultant, what they do is take the wage u want to earn say £18k then add their percentage onto it so the company who employs u needs to basically pay the agency for finding you.

Also in temping, agencies will just add a figure onto your required hourly wage.
