who do u need to apply to dvla? i asked and was told i would lose the reg if it was scrapped or sold

From what i've read it has to have been taxed within the last 6 months - then its at their discression...

Mad isn't it - They would/could just destroy a reg say worth £20,000 for no reason whatsoever....

They get it back in their possession so they can sell it again!

According to the info I've read on the internet if you don't transfer a plate before the car gets crushed that plates lost - infact this was the dvla website I was on..

I'm assuming what that means is if this willy 2 cannot be mot'd and taxed again then it cannot be put on retention therfore goes with the car to its death... in only certain circumstances it can be retained without a valid mot and tax disc which is what I've asked Midge to kindly find out for me...

Ahh sorry Mat misread your post...

Although your right thats what the dvla say but theres conflicting reports on other reg plates sites I've been on - maybe they only resurface the ones that are worth something to keep the choices down?
