Immobiliser?

Hi, thinking of buying a cheap mk1 to mess about with off a mate. However he said that he left it for a week and when he charged the battery up it wouldn't start and says it's the immobiliser. It's a 93 valver, if there an easy fix without buying a ph1 ecu?

as far as i know the imobaliser on 93 cars is seperate to the ecu mate.
