    Engine oil

Just a question about which oil we should use.
This car has been spoilt by my son and the previous owner, with no expense spared on maintenance. Trouble is we haven't got the spare money that they both had, and I think there is a lot of money spent unnecessarily on oil because of heavy advertising.
As long as the correct grade of oil is used, does it matter which brand we use?

There has been a lot of discussion about synthetic vs 'normal' stuff.

Oilman recommends 'proper' fully synth (as he would, seeing as he sells it ;) lol) but others have said that 'normal' stuff changed more often will be fine.

Have a search on Oil and see what comes up

Personally my valver is very happy on 5w40 Elf Excellium from the Dealer - about £23 for 5 litres if the parts man is nice

std grade changed regularly will count for far more than brand.

10 40 will do the trick.

any sort of oil in my opinion is fine.. except magnetec..

oilman runs a business at the end of the day, so his technical jargon is aimed at fooling ppl in to buying his products.

I have always used halfords home brand semi synth.... we drive clios not F1 cars.

the connoisseurs will state use mobil 1 15 50 i think.

15 is way to thick imo!

Perhaps if you live in france, with decent warm weather to keep it a bit thinner when standing, but not miserable, cold England lol

I tried Mobil 1 15-50 in mine once and it ran like sh*t, too thick for these engines!

I agree with Gunner, any 10-40 oil is fine, as long as you change it regularly you can't go wrong. I recommend Shell Helix 10-40 semi, it's good oil and not too expensive
