Greetings fellow clio fans My name is Ivo and I am from Bulgaria. Currently I am driving my father's '91 renault clio 1.2 RN and I am a huge fan of the car. Hopefully in the next couple of years I will have enough money to buy my own clio - 16v or even a williams. Here in my country they cost about 2000 euro for a 16v and 3000 for a williams(well there is only one williams for sail now so there isn't much choise ;))
The reason I am writting you is about an arguement that I've had with a friend of mine. He, like most of the young people here, owns an Opel and thinks that is the best car ever. Everybody say that an Opel Kadett GSi or Opel Astra GSi will totally smash a renault clio williams in a 400m drag race. I don't think so and that is why I am writting you. I have read tons of info about the 16v and the williams an there aren't 2 sites that say the same thing! Everywhere they have different stats - from 7.7 secs to about 9 secs 0-100 acceleration. So I hope you guys can help my with my problem, and if you have some video of a race between a 16v or a williams vs kadett or astra gsi please share it with me, I will be mostly thankful

i would think the williams should win standard for standard as they both have 2.0 litre 16v engines putting out 150bhp

I forgot to mention, could you guys share some performance stats about the clio - 0-100, 400m run, top speed, things like that. It will be great if you share your own, not stats from a site ;)

I'd say the williams should be faster than the lardy astra gsi everytime....the mk2 AStra GTE however would be a much closer race, until a corner!

I saw those times but my question was about the stock williams 400m time and acceleration

the mk2's are rapid ( or at least they where in there day, that would be very,very close, probably depend on weather you had a "good un" or not, for both cars ) got a lot of mates who also worship astra's or anything vauxhall, the clio is the better car without a shadow of doubt though!

Yep the clio is very fast, and if someone has a video of the duel I was talking about it will be great I was watching some of the video section and I saw a klio 161 hp vs a 270 turbo hp astra G and it was increnible! It is true that the astra is at least 100-150 kg heavier but damn that thing is fast!
