Stripping will by far be the best "mod" you can do (out of those), for example, a 16v weighs 980kg standard:
137bhp x 1000kg / 980kg = 139.79 bhp/tonne
Lets assume you get it down to 850kg (including your cage - this is generous as the figure for mk1 cups is 850 with dash/sound deadening).
137bhp x 1000kg / 850kg = 161.17bhp/tonne
So that's over 20bhp/tonne extra, not including your IK+decat/exhaust.
Now lets assume your 16v is making 145bhp with a strong engine, IK, decat and your exhaust:
145bhp x 1000kg / 850kg = 170.58bhp/tonne
Quite a difference wouldn't you say!
Figures for a standard 172...
170bhp * 1000kg / 1060kg = 160bhp/tonne
So anyway, my point is, stripping the interior out to such a degree is a massive modification! As you have effectively "gained" 30bhp over a standard valver.
As Summeh and others have said - not really a surprising result to be honest!
I need to get down south when my 172 cup comes out this weekend ;)
Chris
ill have a play with anyones 182 \ 172 in my vavler i love it but its soon going hybrid = near 200 bhp \ ton
my valver is a freak, can run 14.7s and prby can get it lower.Originally Posted by Ali

Care!!! 1/4 mile is pointless! 30-110 etc...
Everyone knows 172's are sluggish off the line!
Strip a cup to silly lengths then do your maths again!
Your tryin to compare apples with pears.
jog on mate, u and ure "cup"
I though 172's are quick off the line then fade away after 80mph?Originally Posted by Ali
Nothing freaky about that valver Bish. You ran a 15.1 on road tyres as did your last one (which had a dash).
So you have either had 2 very freaky valvers, or you are good at 1/4 miles. Strip a valver, give it to Bish and it will run low 15s all day :P
actualyl it was 15.0 on road tires.
and 14.9 on sliks which was still slower than my average 60ft times.
