16v slag vs 172

my valver is a beast. ran a 14.7 at pod wit s**t 60ft time.

only mods are ik and magnex cat back had a gay IK on therr but it prob slowed me down a bit, usually have itg with fog scoop.

It was stripped to the bone wasn't it??? Also, did you run slicks?

Therefore only mods are not just IK and exhaust

Stripping will by far be the best "mod" you can do (out of those), for example, a 16v weighs 980kg standard:

137bhp x 1000kg / 980kg = 139.79 bhp/tonne

Lets assume you get it down to 850kg (including your cage - this is generous as the figure for mk1 cups is 850 with dash/sound deadening).

137bhp x 1000kg / 850kg = 161.17bhp/tonne

So that's over 20bhp/tonne extra, not including your IK+decat/exhaust.

Now lets assume your 16v is making 145bhp with a strong engine, IK, decat and your exhaust:

145bhp x 1000kg / 850kg = 170.58bhp/tonne


Quite a difference wouldn't you say!

Figures for a standard 172...

170bhp * 1000kg / 1060kg = 160bhp/tonne


So anyway, my point is, stripping the interior out to such a degree is a massive modification! As you have effectively "gained" 30bhp over a standard valver.

No bloody way! Valvers are incredibly slow! I destroyed one in my old 172!

my valver is a freak, can run 14.7s and prby can get it lower.

should come find me and see if u can beat it :P

I though 172's are quick off the line then fade away after 80mph?

Nothing freaky about that valver Bish. You ran a 15.1 on road tyres as did your last one (which had a dash).

So you have either had 2 very freaky valvers, or you are good at 1/4 miles. Strip a valver, give it to Bish and it will run low 15s all day :P

actualyl it was 15.0 on road tires.

and 14.9 on sliks which was still slower than my average 60ft times.
