    Power-steering leak - Hybrid - Help

I don't know how this has happened but power steering fluid started leaking from somewhere last night when i parked up on a kerb and now the rack is wining like anything especially when the steering is turned. I bought 2 litres of slick 50 today to try and sort it but it won't stop leaking and has obviously wasted most of the fluid. The nearside half of the rack is wet while the offside is dry, again no idea why.

    Few questions:

    1) Is it safe to drive the car when the p/s is leaking?
    2) Where is the most likely place for it to be leaking?
    3) One of the p/s pipes sits right above the n/s driveshaft, is this right?
    4) How do i proceed to get it sorted?

    Thanks alot

    Adrian

if its leaed 2 litres then no dont drive it! the system only holds 1.5 litres from empty so thats a bad leak!

as for where, your gonna have to investigate further, find the leak by drying all the lost fluid off and looking for where it gets damp again first then replace the broen bit

sounds like a burst pipe...try findin the source of the leak.

maybe need the rack rebuilt if its not a burst pipe.

Yep it's a burst pipe unfortunately. Looks like it's been rubbing on the driveshaft for sometime where the car is so low.

Can someone with Dialogys get the part number of the damaged pipe for me please? Up for grabs is a packet of crisps and a mars bar

The pipe that is burst is the one that comes off the rack, over the nearside driveshaft and connects to a metal pipe above the front of the subframe.

    See pics below:

    Damn slammed cars...

just what I was going to say, looks as though someone has put it above the driveshaft though which just seems crazy and I can't see why anyone would do it.

    Winston did it. Slacker! :o

What's the easiest way to change the pipe? By the looks of that pic, it disconnects right near the pump and goes all the way directly into the rack.

It's easy to disconnect at the pump end, it just unscrews and pulls out, never tried to get it out of the rack though, that will probably be more fiddly!!

Is it radiator out to get the entire hose out?

Looks very tricky to undo the rack end of it.
