My engine has just died, symptoms inside!

I check the spark plugs and they were black, but dry.

WELL! took the leads off the distributer cap, cleaned and sprayed with WD40 then started the car with my mates jump leads. It started fine no problems, sounded as normal, no spluttering or anything, no backfiring, no white smoke ran it for a good few mins but had to turn it off due to the burst hose..

Like i said before the burst hose was pissing directly over the dizzy cap, could this be the cause to my previous problems?

I'll get a hose tomorrow or within the week and bleed/refill the coolant then take it for a run
