    PTFE Inlet Manifold Gasket

I saw on another car forum, a group buy for these, and it said that they gave a good increase in bhp by keeping the inlet manifold cooler due to the heat not radiating through to the inlet manifold.

Would this work on the clio? As i know it gets nice and hot inside the bay.

yes, we have some being made at the moment, but the problem is that you have to alter some of the fixings holes and slot them since you push the manifold further out.

As above, how does it work? what are the gains and how much is it going to cost for parts and fitted?

Im guessing the PTFE is a very good insulator.

the normal inlet manifold gasket is metal which conducts the heat well and heats up the inlet manifold and therefore heats up the air before entering the engine.

As the PTFE doesnt conduct very well, the inlet manifold stays cooler, air stays cooler, cooler air enters the engine.

Thats how i imagine it to work anyway.

Yeah that was the blurb that i read about it.
Seems a cheapish mod to do for abit of gain.

quite correct, the ol honda boys have been doing it for ages and they see repeatedly large gains, but they do have alot more HP to begin with.

I've seen carb setups with 1" thick spacers that knock up torque and bhp a silly amount for just temp reduction.

But it depends since the rad sits right infront of it anyway.

Were just trying out a few, so they wont be expensive and we'll ship them out for people to fit, since labour costs for fitting a gasket will be high due to time taken, not very economical unless you are doing it yourself etc.

How thick do you reckon it has to be,1mm/2mm thick,we use sheet ptfe in work on the lasers, very good at deflecting heat,if it can stand a laser imsure an exhaust manifold is simple?

Maybe be able to make a few up aswell
