STRANGE NOISE!

Strange noise from the back of the car !

Well went for a little spin earlier and now there is a strange noise from the back end when idleing, think it might be the fuel pump, is making a steady like wering noise.. anyone have any ideas ?
am i going to need a new pump ?

Sounds like your fuel pump to me. Its about the only electrical motor on the rear of the car apart from the wipers. Willy's and 16v's have 2 fuel pumps though and when the main tank gets short the aux pump, pumps fuel into the main tank. Could have just been that. Was it lower than around 1/4 tank?

any ideas where i can get a 16valve fuel pump cheap anyone as most places want nigh on a ton for one and i need one for my conversion or it's gonna run lean!

hmm i had just been very low and filled up, but had been driving for about 7 miles .... but i did have the orange light flashing before i filled up so maybe it was just refilling the reserve

Apparently it takes up to about 30 secs for it the reserve pump to finish its work.

Rich, not sure about you prob. Is it the main pump thats gone? If so, what about replacing it with an aftermarket pump from someone like Facet if the Renault ones expensive.

neither pump has gone, i'm presuming there are 2 pumps on all clios (manual and electric) and i am unsure what i need so that my 1.2 pump could cope with 90psi like the valver needs (so i'm told) as i'm sure i'm correct in saying an ajustable pressure regulator on it's own with the current pump won't take it will it?

Are you doing a conversion? If so, is the 1.2 fuel injection? If it is then you may get away with the existing pump.
