Glad it's back online but surely a mysql dump of the database would have been or is all that is required to restore it properly.

Then if php is timing out on the upload just get the host to change the POST_MAX_SIZE or UPLOAD_MAX_FILESIZE settings in php.ini

Failing that just get them to recreate it locally.

the database was transfered but never fully checked, it was deleted when the rest of the homepage worked.

There was no backup left to revert to.
