    low oil pressure???

Hi....My clio williams 1 is suffering with low oil pressure....I think....

Runs at about 2.5 bar on startup but when warm drops to 1.5 bar ish and on tickover when hot almost zero bar ???

What is the problem?? Could it be the oil pressure sender ?? I've changed the oil for 5w 40 synthetic last weekend and only a very slight improvement...could it be the gauge, or could it be the motor???

Apart from this shes running great with no knocks or any nasty noises....

Excuse my ignorance...Im a complete mechanical numpty

if its a SAE 40 oil, then it will be fine, no matter the "w" rating or whether its fully synth or semi synth.

the "w" rating is the cold start thickness, and when the oil reaches its operating temp it is another thickness.

so a 5w 40 oil is the same thickness (viscosity) when warm as a 15w40 oil. some people say 0w40 or 5w40 is too thin for these engines, but how can it be if when warm the oil is the same viscosity as 15w40 etc etc?

search for some of the oil threads on here if your unsure.

generally the williams engine (f7r) should be around 5 or 6 bar when cold driving, with about 2-3bar at cold idle. when up to temp (between 80 and 100 degs) at 80mph it will be around 3.5 bar, and just below 1bar on idle. each engine is different.

mine dips below 1 bar when hot on idle!

dont bother me too much as when im "driving" it the pressures are fine!

aii thats how mine runs (exactly).

although now mine will run when driving cold at 5/6 bar (6bar roughly above 2k) but will idle at 4, when i first got it, at idle it would be at 6 too. maybe a sign of age coming through.

sorry to highjack topic but with ppl talkin about presures it seems like a good sign to how good of a condition your engine is in ?
if im happy about how it runs / pulls and presure is fine
runs cool temp and sweet as at long high speed motorway (tests) but its done 110k and it has a tap id still think its in nice strong condition
so is there any need to probe if it aint broke ? any presure is good presure if its showing temp
i have only drove my own maybe i should arange a swap with some local guys

if it aint broke dont fix it.

im applying the same philosophy (sp) to my engines bottom end - if its running fine, and doing quick times then no need to rebuild it just yet! It is on 95k (apparently), but still going very strong!

When the oil temperature is about 90c to 100c, the oil pressure should be around 2.5bar to 3.5bar at 3000rpm. At idle, it can be almost 0bar up to about 1bar.
