    Airflow past rear bumper

I was in bed thinking last night (first time for ages cos I wasn't pissed lol) and I thought about how to make a Clio faster for the same bhp now that theres a few of us running silly stripped.

I got to thinking that when I took the spare wheel and cage off that it has left a huge hole under the car which is blocked off by the backbumper, causing a lot of drag.

So, seen as my tax and insurance run out before the 0-60 do, any chance that one of you can do a couple of runs, then whip the back bumper off and do some more to see if it makes a difference?

Why not utilise the space and create a flat section. It will help smooth the airflow under the car and reduce the drag, and at the sametime increase downforce...OK very minimal but every little helps.

Thats my plan but I want to see if removing the bumper makes any difference first.

Fook that just need a sheet of super thin ally so it doesn't weigh much. Could build a DTM style venturi into the back bumper aswell but it'd look shit if the rest of the car was standard.

if you put a flat rear floor section on you would notice a diff i reckon...as daft as it sounds for a lil clio!

drag is a crazy force like, makes a lot of difference to acln times. at my old work we had a Noble in that was having a full paint job. i drove it to the paint shop bout 250miles away WITH the rear wing. when i picked it up the rear wing WASNT on, and i tell you, the difference was astonishing!!

I can't get to the 0-60 cos i've broken my foot but at the next drag racing meeting i'll take the bumper off for somebody and try it.

It should make a difference to the 0-100 time and maybe the 1/4 mile time and terminal speed.
