Engine Rocking & Noises (putfile links)

Just changed the rocker gasket and started it up and noticed the engine rocks a lot, i presume it did it before, and i just never noticed.

also there seems to be some popping and a bit of smoke form the exhaust.

can some of you take a look and tell me what you think?

    thanks,
    richard

(they're both in quicktime btw, if this causes any probs let me know)

looks like its misfiring, try and rev it, if it hesitates before reving up, its definetly a misfire, check that the plug electrodes are gapped ok, check all leads are connected to the dizzy cap in the correct order, and check there all on the plugs ok, it looks to me like you have got 2 leads on the wrong way around!

i dont think it hesitates before reving up, but i never really tested it.

would it account for the smoke as well?

thanks to all thoes that replied, the leads where on the cap in the right order.

i was looking into the engine at a diff problem and noticed that one of the little electrical leads that sit above the inlet manifold next to the engine had come off. popped it back on and fired it up and ran superbly! no rocking from the engine or popping from the exhaust.

however, there is still some smoke coming from the exhaust, i didnt look hard enough to see the colour as i was in a hury bit it was quite faint and whispy.

my big big worry is that its the head gasket, my 1.4 did the same until it blew like an F1 car and covered the road in white steam (water was getting into the engine and going straight out as steam)

head gasket can give plenty of symtoms, losing water, mayo in filler cap, overheating! if you go to a garage and ask them to dye test it, if your anywhere near derbyshire one day i could look at it for you?
