I have these still from when i had my 18poo... no use to me what so-ever but it seems a shame to chuck them out as they are virtually unused!
I took them out as i bought some original 182 mats...

There's a self locking washer inbetween the rack and the track rod, there complete b*sterd to unscrew... if you use two huge mole grips you should be able to unscrew them but you will need a new...
Only things i can think of is that either the clutch lever pedal assembly isn't right or the clutch cable is not attatched to the selector fork properly.
Also make sure the cable hasn't snapped...
Is it clicking randomly to the floor or not at all??

If yoiur buying tools i would say buy em right first time and they will last you forever, Halfords and Draper etc will see you good but expect some things to need replacing; ratchets in halfords...
