wow.. got some work to do there bud.. u know what ur letting yourself in for?? I don't think that door card is save-able.. look for another one on here or https://www.facebook.com/groups/5527...29615/?fref=ts or even http://www.clio16valver.co.uk/forum/ you will have to sign up/join up.. engine bay isn the worst ive seen.. the inlet manifold and the rocker cover are the main eye catching points when looking in the bay.. get these cleaned up and it will make a lot of difference.. a new header tank bottle would help also.. can be found on ebay.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-9-...item4189b43131
also you should be able to get a straight spark plug cover from someone on these forums too..
one good thing by the looks of it is the exhaust heatshield in the bay.. that looks pretty good.. don't ruin it!!
good luck mate

Cheers mate, I take your point about the work to do.
I haven't made my mind up yet as to how far I want to go with it or
how much I'll do myself and how much I'll get done professionally.
As mentioned I own a motor spares business and have plenty of contacts in the trade
and can probably call a few favours.
I'm sure the majority of problems will be bodywork based. The mechanical history is very good
and apart from the usual problems associated with not turning a wheel for a few years, I'm hopeful the car will start and run ok
after a little tlc. I'm happy to take my time.
I suspect that sourcing certain parts that will improve aesthetics will be the problem.
All advice and comments welcome,
Lew

Ive got a XNP reg - what garage was yours supplied from?
-
Hi Northy, not exactly sure but the service history show Baldocks of Bracknell as servicing it from day one ish
Don't think they're still trading but dunno really.
Understand this isn't the right place to ask but while I'm typing:
Anybody got a driverside door for a one?
-
Wow that needs a good tidy up ha ha. Good luck with it Lew :)

The good thing about a car like this is it's even more impressive when cleaned up!
The door needs replacing.
The sill needs cutting out and welding.
Bit on front of bonnet too.
All exterior plastics need refurbing - not that hard. Just replace the front grill they are only about £10.
The engine bay is not as hard as you might think. New expansion bottle. Clean up or replace the hoses. Replace or refurb the spark plug cover and HT leads. Replace heatshield.
Inlet manifold and all that tarnished metal can be shot blasted and/or powdercoated.
Replace Fogs.

Hi Wobba, I think your spot on with your appraisal. Just started turning my attention to the body work.
Inner and outer sills ready to be fitted. New(2nd hand) door mounted and being refitted with good replacement door card.
Glove box lid fitted. Front grill and headlamp trims plus wheel centre cap ordered.
brakes all replaced. Front top strut mountings. Header tank, radiator, alternator, starter motor, battery plus numerous other mechanical jobs. Full service and aux drive belt. Car runs really nice.
will replace lead set and mate who sold me the car says he has the lead/heat cover. Got a new spark plug cover Decal.
Sills, bonnet, slam panel, door(full side) rear spoiler to paint.
After the paintwork is done it will get a machine polish and new headlights and indicators and fogs.
Got my concerns about how to get inlet man looking good. Would ideally like to replace the rocker cover also if anybody has 'em?
Gonna give the engine bay a steam clean and a tidy up. Not sure how far to go but just for now I want to get it to a pint where it's on the road then I'll take a view of how much more money and effort(love) to put in to it.
Few pics to show how it was a few weeks back.
