as it can be seen in the pictures below, the exhaust camshaft was found broken. at a speed of 100 km/h, i heard a noise - bang ! the engine was turned off , couldn't start it again. how was this possible ? the camshaft was lubricated, it was oil there, but it was stucked. who gave up first : the camshaft or the pulley lock up on exhaust valves ?
There's a collar on the cam, sort of thrust bearing that prevents cam movement in/out. If that broke, it usually siezes. It happened to me. Check if that's broken.

Must have had a fracture or just deteriorated from age perhaps

they are usually stamped on the dizzy end iirc. rn then the spec. mine were rn2002s. kent wouldnt admit a fault, but then according to northy, they redesigned them. as they did with his, still unfitted, items.
mine destroyed the head also. not had a problem on the std cams since, think was about 4-5 years ago now iirc
I've seen a few standard cams fail there.
