Timing Belt - How often?
My timing belt (or as some call it cam belt) was changed 10K ago, back in 2005 when it had its engine rebuild. Now I'm told by Renault that they should be changed every 5 years or 70K??? Which seems pretty high to me.
I was considering changing it as part of a major service in time for the winter and its only £52 for the belt and tensioner pulleys and that from GSF.
How often do people change theirs? What is best recommendation.
Thx

70k or 5 years is corrrect, which ever comes first. no need to change yours just yet.
-
as above is right, but yours has only done a year and 10k, so it should fine fine for a few years yet, although i wouldnt leave it aslong as that just out of precaution, id do it again in 2008 myself

Thanks guys.
You never can be too cautious. I'll prob do it on my major service next year.
-
definately no need to do it yet and unless you do a lot of miles (i.e. 20k+) there wouldn't be any need to do it next year either tbh.
-
I would do it every 3 years, or 36k, which ever comes first.
Haynes also recommends 36k, although reno states 70k.
-
Def would go for every 36K tbh, cambelt doesn't cost much and if it snaps you're looking at a proper ****ed engine!
-
mine cost £300 to do! They also found out when renault last did it 5 years ago that they didnt replace the pre tensioner as the bearings where ****ed!That took the garage an age to change and bumped the price up :(

Yeah its 300 dollars cos its an arse to do!!
Thats why I was toiling over doing mine.
