Rubber housing at the front of the gearbox linkage

Hi all,

Please can you tell me how to take off the rubber housing on the front end of the gear linkage which is numbered below as 21 on the image below (I acquired the image from another post so ignore the blue circle). Does it slide off when forced?? I don't want to ruin it if possible.

it should slide off the linkage rod end.. you can still get these new last time i checked and not that expensive..

Just rang Renault to be on the safe side in case I rip the rubber and yes you can still get the part. The part number for reference is 7700718856 and it's 11.35 plus vat.
