Andi at GDi has just phoned me looking for an APY Audi S3 lump to do a turbo conversion on a mk1 clio. The guy hes building it for wants a big turbo conversion which Andi reckons he will see 400 bhp +. Dont know if its anyone of here - i know my mates doing one and he has posted the pics of the conversion but i think this may be a different one. The thing is do i tell him were there is an S3 lump are not ???

What is the point in putting 400-500 bhp throguh teh front wheels, you will have almost no drivability left, it will just understear you off the track

MAXIBOY
29-03-2006, 16:05
the idea is to be adjustable 250bhp in the wet 350bhp in the dry 500bhp when your tired of living

Lunner
29-03-2006, 16:06
why not just geta 500bhp rwd beast, or better still 4wd

its not as bad as you think - torque steer is bad but you get used to it.....ive managed a 1.9 second 0 - 60 foot time at the pod........thats skyline territory !!

I suppose it`s all down to weather you can move your foot to different heights lol. You don`t have to floor it all the time. A guy I raced (and beat) at York in a 2ltr nova said after the race that he had no chance as mine doesn`t wheelspin..just cause I didn`t flatten it in 1st and 2nd didn`t mean that it wouldn`t spin if I wished

Its cheaper to build a muscle car to go quick. Depends what you want really. Cheapest way to go quick at the minute is to buy a 87-94 Mustang 5 litre and turbo it. For £10000 you can be well into the 9s, and for £15000 you can be well into the 9s and beat 90% of cars around a circuit lol.

only 15k on top of the purchase price eh? I'll have two!

clowo16v

You could do it cheaper if you buy 2nd hand or get bits in America. ProCharger kits are about £2000 and give a 65-80% power increase. Coupled with a decent pair of heads it should make 450-500bhp and a similar amount of torque, which is plenty enough to run in the 10s with a RWD car on slicks.

The easiest way to do it would be to get a cheap holiday in America, buy a cheap Mustang there for $1500 then fill it with performance bits and ship it back.

crate engines have made the v8 scene insanelt cheap and effective.

Few thousand US and you have a crate engine turn up with 800bhp.....boof, off you go.

But more importantly will it fir in a mk1 clio Ben?

500bhp in a car that weighs nearly 2 ton......250bhp per tonne ??

My Corvette was kicking out 375bhp and i could only get 13.6.....come on lads get you facts right

Have you heard of a guy called Jeff Manni he did it with his. Theres not that many over here but if you go to the states mustangs are the car to have they're well cheap. Going drag racing since you've been 6 months old aswell you tend to know people who do that sort of stuff.

Otherwise just go for a Chevy. A 300bhp small block crate motor is around $2000 and with a few bits can make 450bhp easy enough as long as its built right.

I don't know why people take the piss out of Yank cars for shit handling, as most of them are OK. I think people just get in to drive it wanting the handling to be shit. With the state of the roads in America though the last thing i'd want is stiff suspension lol.

The Ford 289ci engine is very tunable - and you can get 500 bhp easily.....but thats not gonna get you a 10 sec quarter on the strip.

The American muscle scene has always gone for big block chevy engines such as the 427ci are the 454ci and bored them out to 500ci. Another favourite is the Mopar 426 "hemi" lump which due to its complex hemispherical combustion chambers can be tuned to over 1000bhp. In a 2 ton Yank Tank you need 600bhp + to get a 10 sec quarter - FACT

Yeh 600bhp in a 60s/70s muscle car is about right. I was running just under 500bhp in my Pop and that has run a 10.4, but it only weighs about 1000kg-ish. That sort of power is real lazy though.

You can go bigger than 500ci with big blocks. For my 460ci Ford you can get 572ci stroker kits, and 600+ci but they take a lot of work to fit.

1000bhp with a Hemi is silly money. You could get 1000bhp a lot cheaper reliable power out of a big block Chevy nitrous motor. My mate dave has a hemi in his plymouth gtx and I know how much it cost him to make 700bhp from it lol.
