basically battery light was on!

bought new alternator (£35 scrapyard)

went to fit got new alternator belt

fitted it but was loose and we snapped tensioner pully

moved alternator with a crowbar to take up the slack. and then fastened it new position with a few home made devices :P

battery light went off and belt didnt slip but the alternator make s one hell of a racket like a wheel bearing tyop noise

still yet to fit the new alternator as we realise light went off with new belt and giving the one alterntor a good whack!

obviously alternator will be changed when i have time but i just didnt realise knackered ones make so much racket on idle. its almost embarrassing!

before anyone says... no the belts not catching the noise is coming from the alternator itself

not gonna bother putting a new one on until i get a new tensioner pully (£60) rip off!

snapped half the nut of the old on becuase we didnt relise you actually undo it with a 7mm allan key! lol

the nut is just for ajusting belt tension!

anyway just checking this all sounds normal and that knackered alternators do actually sound like a bag of bolts.

appreciated

Not really.
They tend to just stop working, regulators pack in.
I could have done you an alternator for £30 and have a pulley for £10.

i've got a spare alternator now but the old one is making a right racket

really pissing me off

had to make my own tension in the belt by crow barring the alternator after removing the top bolt

seems to hold it in place but just want it all set up properly

is that £10 posted for the tensioner then mate?

can you get it in post tomorrow morning and i'll have cheque off to you straight away!
