Guys... wen we were pulling my interior apart we found a silver thing in the top of my glove box! I dont have a key for it tho!

I always use my glove box but havent noticed it before!

Someone said they have one in their mk1 clio and its something to do with the immobiliser.... ??

Or could the bloke who installed my alarm have put it there?!?! I dont think he did tho!

:D :?: :D

wudnt worry bout it, unless you've ever had any alarm issues with the renault one. if its disabled then no worries!

the old renualt alarm keys tend to get lost in the wash etc, not many people have em for lesser models anymore below a williams! i aint got one for mine and never really given it a second thought cuz i got a cat 1 after market alarm, so if u have to breath easy girl!! :D

It was only fitted to the early 16v's.

It arms the factory immobiliser. Ph.2's don't have it because they have the immobiliser built in to the ECU. - or at least ph.2 from '95

so how do you turn the immobiliser off in a phase two

You can't :O

It's coded into the ECU

You can switch the immobiliser off, I believe. I got a 'credit card' thing with my car with a 4 digit PIN on it. There is then some mechanism whereby you enter the PIN to switch the immobiliser off. I don't remember the exact details and have never used it but I think it was something like you use the windscreen wiper stalk to enter the number (e.g. pull it 4 times to enter '4') and then press the brake pedal to move onto the next digit.

My '95 also has the key switch near the alarm under the bonnet, to switch the alarm off and another one in the car near the glovebox which I found when stripping the car. Surely this can't be used to switch off the immobiliser as just removing or touching together the wires would disable that system too easily?

You were supposed to been given a silver key which slots into the barrel and arms the standard immobilier. It is not armed with the remote central locking.

If you dont use it or have another immobiliser fitted it doesn't matter.

The later valvers has the key switch under the dash board on the passenger side. i found it by mistake whilst cleaning my old valver out.

We have the barrel in our glove box... we had it in our rt too... when the key is turned it sets the stock immobiliser and a flashin light should come on on the top by your steering wheel boss. . . if the light aint flashin you are fine... the immobiliser isnt switched on... if you havent been given a key i wouldnt worry about it really :D

They've all got that. it disarms the alarm system.
