View Full Version : My Caliper Knacked?

2Live kindly stripped the pads out and wound the calipers back in on friday before cleaning everything up and re-fitting. My rear brakes had become stuck on, only freeing up on the motorway.

We suspected that since the handbrake only appeared to be working on one side that the cable must've stretched.

Got home today and thought I'd jack it up and see what happened with the brake pedal depressed. The side that wasn't braking with the handbrake isn't braking with the normal brakes.

Do I need new calipers? Or should I source some 2nd handers and spruce them up myself?

Also, the wheel that isn't, seemingly, a problem doesn't freewheel if there's no brakes applied when jacked up. Now it's always done this since new and I just assumed it's because the pads run so close to the disc. Should it freewheel? It turns but doesn't spin.

yeah its a common problem, replaced one of mine, and replaced one on a valver too, strangley enough both n/s ones

although at £110 for a new rear caliper from bbpt, i'd go with teh 2nd hand option

Mine's the n/s too. :?

Spooky shit. So apart from the replacement caliper, what else would I need? New seals or owt?

Do they come apart easy?

Also does that o/s not spinning matter?

If they are stuck on, just take them apart, clean them all up and re-grease them

Could possibly take it apart and play, but at £20 for a 2nd hand caliper......is it really worth it?

Think i paid about £20

I'll just get a 2nd hand caliper then and clean that up then change it. Worth doing both sides you reckon?

Lunner, is it likely to be the sliders that are siezed? If you refurbed them did you use the kit from Renault?
