Before trying a different coil, just take the amplifier off yours, clean the contacts, and then put back together.
The Amplifier is the bit the ignition lead plugs onto.

buy a new coil from GSF, dont bother with a 2nd hand one, a new one can be had for just short of £35

BRUN

if the bit that the rotor arm sits on is at all rusty, clean it up before fitting the new rotor arm

Nope.
The HT lead plugs onto the amp, which is bolted to the coil.
Have a look next time your under there.

-30 means your temp sensor in pass side wing mirror is faulty or disconnected

FATBOY
28-02-2006, 21:10
i doubt it???

what do you mean doesnt start first time???? does it turn over a few times on 1 key turn? and then fires up?

you havent had the car long have you??? if i was you and little things like that were going wrong straight away i would take it back and moan like ****! :D

holl
28-02-2006, 21:16
it turns over and then fires up after about 3 - 10 key turns!! :(
lol dont think they will take it back!!!
i could just do with knowing what to do with it so i can get it sorted!!

FATBOY
28-02-2006, 21:21
i didnt mean take it back for a refund! i meant take it back and get them to put the things that are wrong, right! or did you buy it privately???? which in that case you may be stuck!

holl
28-02-2006, 21:22

FATBOY

well if hes an honest bloke he would help you out with these teething problems, obviously a few months down the line who knows what is going to go wrong and then thats down to you(touch wood mine has been ok since i got her 2 years ago now) but things that your experienceing a week or 2 after you have bought it shouldnt really happen?

BRUN

Some suggestions:

Do you have a voltmeter to check the battery? Or try cable jumpering to another car and see if that start better. If it does, the battery could be weak.

Spray the ignition cable contacts with contact cleaner.

Clean the spark plugs.

As a precaution, clean up all the earth points, esp the one on the gearbox. Weird electrical problems can occur when the earth connections are not properly secured.

03-03-2006, 15:45
can u tow it to a garage with a diagnostic check? thats what i would do. has ur b/f taken a look at it?

holl
03-03-2006, 15:47
he is doing all the work on it! could it be somthin to do with the fuel pump? if thats what its called? :?

Jamie.
03-03-2006, 15:51
this is all alot of hassle, cant u just tow it to a garage and have them run a diagnostic check? once u know what is wrong go from there?
as u have already replace things that were obv okay, u dont want to esculate ur bill more than needed.
as for fuel pump u should here it prime on ignition, im not sure how to check if it is processing the fuel properly, sorry

whats your location... im sure i could sort it i n 30 mins.. unless the part required is broke.

im NW based (Rochdale/Bacup)

if its the fuel pump you will here a slight wurrr noise when you turn the key to on.
if you dont check the fuel pump fuse.

This is going to sound too simple but my car cut out a while ago and wouldn't start. The engine was turning over but wouldn't fire, and no whirring noise from the fuel pump when the ignition was turned. Break down guy came out and fiddled around with some of the wires in the engine and it started first time and it's been fine ever since. Might be worth a go, could just be a faulty/bad connection somewhere??

holl try the imobiliser thing!!!

do you want me to come up and show you how to work it?

i'm sure its that you know!

if not its most likely the fuel pump cause i rememberthinging to myself when i had it that the pump had no noise!

everyone of my valvers made the noise so i found that quite odd.

in saying that tho i did 6-700 miles in it and never gave me any trouble

the spark plugs are brand new!!! i put them in myself!

only other thing i can think is that the rocker gasket had a slight leak which meant oil could get around the plugs but i doubt this would make it not start!.

ring me and i'll talk you through the imobiliser thing.

matt
