What is the the most outlandish car-related claim that you have heard or said (Come on, 'fess up)??

Heard from a mutual friend that, a guy swears that his highly modded WRX takes 20mins to race from one toll- booth to another toll-booth. Distance between toll-booths is 200km! That would be an average speed of 600kph(375mph)! I have proposed a $1000 bet that he proves it. Preferably, not with me in the car when he tries it :D :D

A breaker once told me that a Mercedes gearbox would fit my Nova.

Actually, nearly every breakers yard up North (no offence Northerners!) and or garage I've ever spoken to is full of shit. Especially if it's a Renault garage!

And I'm always too nice to give them the verbal flaming they deserve. I just go "Oh OK thanks" and put the phone down :roll:

Someone once told me that a car with a lot less power and torque than another car would still be quicker around a track due it having slightly more torque below 4,000rpm.

my mate recons his standard nova gsi can easily outdo a audi tt quattro, and sais there must be something up with my valver if i cant beat one! also reconned he kept up with a bmw m3, funny how no one is around to witness it!

I've heard of a guy claim that his Ford Probe will rinse the floor with an RX-7 ... apparently even some polite advice to the contrary is met with a more enforced opinion that it is a much faster car. Why? "Because it looks faster!"
