View Full Version : Got my Column welded
One of those jobs i shoudl ahve got a quote BEFORE he did it....£20
Still hadn't even gone yet, just starting to, defo made a difference :)
Took the guy all of 10 mins in his lunch break today, not bad i ring up about it and 10 mins later i'm at his house and hes welding it for me
got mine done today for £5
the guys done 4-5 for me now on valvers so he knows what hes doing :P
What is it that goes on them? And where do they weld? In the car or under the bonnet?
Might get mine done as a matter of cause
its in the car! there is a ball joint that wears! the ball joint is there for safety in an accident, as it makes the column collapse away from the driver!
Any one know of someone cheap in the South Central (hampshire) area
So where is this joint then? At the bottom in the gaitor?
I wanna check mine out
my old man did mine on an old valver! made it 100 x better and it withstood many a track day after!
altho the bloke at the garge did say they should have a tiny bit of play in them so didnt recommend havin it welded!
Yeah but the columns for the manual roack are solid, without this universal joint.
Paul, thats not the part that makes it collapse in an accident, its the bit that stops it wrenching the wheel outa your hands if you hit a pothole/kerb etc
this was on my old blue 16v like :)
At teh bottem, under the rubber boot you can see inside the car
Has any one got a pic of one welded up so I know.
Saves me running out and pulling the car apart
cheers

dont they fill that bit up with some bright coloured rubber that crumbles away? thats why you have to weld it isnt it?
