Its about getting higher poundage springs, i'm gonna get some made up to 250lb.

You can then play with the hight by chopping bits off the bottem of them

There is a place in sheffield that does them, altrhough i'm gonna pop inot Midlands performance Centre and see if they can find me a local one.

Well Richy has 200lb springs, so decided to go for 250lb lol

Well i ahve some std RSi springs for them to get the diameters off, gonna get them to make some up the same but a bit shorter, and then i'll play around and chop bits off to lower teh car to the right height

the std williams springs are 125lb, i now run 200lb on new shockers but use to run 165lb, its only through doing trackdays and back road runs i decided i wanted to upgrade mine and try reduce the amount of roll and it not be rock hard suspension!

thats not too bad, i was quoted near £130, which i think is a bit exessive for a road car, track toy maybe, but not a daily run about

Lunner
17-02-2006, 13:28
Well the £100 was from Ritchspeed, £130 i'd be prepared to pay tho, every day car, track car.

If i didn't track it i wouldn't bother

Mattie

not trackd it yet but i want 2 some time soon!....£100 is still cheeper than coilovers though!

how many lbs are deisel springs?...i might just buy them and chop em :?:

won't be anywhere near 200lbs mate, they're only stiffer because of the heavy diesel lump, but tbh the 16v lump is probably as heavy, so can't see them being anymore than 125 lbs, plus chopping coils is a bit.... bodge, lol.

custom ones will be better, or just some avo's, with a nice little 25mm drop.

Thing is if you get higher poundage springs how do you know how much 25mm is?

If you make them 25mm shorter its gonna sit higher anyways as tehy are higher poundage, unless you know teh corner weighting, and the poundage of the orignal springs you can't work out a drop.

Makes no difference if you chop the bottems of them, as long as you loave the top, where they narrow the same, apparently thats what race teams etc do when they get custom springs made up

my 200lb set are shorter then the 165lb set reason being due to higher poundage they dont compress as much(ie less roll)

ill_moves i def recomend upgrading to a higher poundage spring(s), the car feels alot flatter and turn in feels sharper, but it still retains std damping not rock hard ones! i got mine through mark ritchspeed

richy - have you got bigger arb/torsion bars on the rear or do the std size cope ok with 200lb springs?

richy
18-02-2006, 20:13
no std williams rear, tbh i dont know of any company that make any bigger/stronger rear arb/torsion bars, not really had any problems handling wise tho, done several trackdays and its great handling wise

Neil1587

Sounds like you've got a good setup there mate :)

Has anyone tried higher than 200lb springs? i'm just interested to know how far you can go with keeping the rear standard.

Lunner

I'm tempted to go 220lob springs, thats what mark ritchspeed ran on his rally clio

Reichard do uprated torsion bars and stabiliser bars, expensive tho.

I'm on a mission to find out if renault 5 extra van torsion bars fit, they are a lot stiffer :D
