View Full Version : gear box seal
any body had gear box seal gone? if so was it a hard job or expensive to replace?
There is only one I can think of mate. Thats on the little stub axle on the offside.
If it is a simple failure then it is a piece of cake to fix. All you need to do is remove the driveshaft from the stub axle, via the roll pin and the strut mounting (so you can lean it forwards). Slide the driveshaft off and you should be able to prise out the old seal and simply push fit the new one on there.
However, I have had the seal brake before but that was down to the pinion gears being forced apart due to a loose bolt, and they rubbed on the inside of the seal causing it to split.
I am not saying that this has happened but check WHY the seal has broken it the first place.
im getting one replaced on Thursday @ LTR
there is also the rubber on the black metal part of the box, covering 5th gear
thats where its leaking on mine
