I've gotta pop down to my mates garage to see if I can squeeze on the ramps. If I can, is there anything else I need apaprt from my de-cat pipe?

Paste?
New bolts?

Exhaust gaskets (2 of), gum and then it's just 4 bolts iirc. We can meet up for a blast if your up for it, but I have no camera to get the flames

I take it that's a no-go for tonight then?

Will a gasket kit come will all the relevant bolts?

Motorshop near me just said to give it lashings of exhaust putty and don't bother with the gaskets.

I can probably get the bolts from B&Q

i'm up for it later if your about, i'll be home by 4:10 anyway, can have a look at your airbox too if you want, pretty easy to take off and fit, one of the only jobs my retarded ass can do! lol

McPikie
13-02-2006, 14:25
Airbox won't be going on til the weekend fella, when my filter has arrived.

Gotta nip to the birds work when I finish, drop off valentines shit, then go to B&Q, then go to the garage after that and see if I can use the ramps.

PM me your number, if I get done, I'll drop you a line

McPikie
13-02-2006, 15:53
And paste it as well as gaskets??

J o n
13-02-2006, 16:06
yes mate, gaskets and paste imo. i've had a BB tuning decat for a while and it's shit anyway, but without gaskets they blow after a couple of days I have found (this one did with, but took longer... lol). Powerflow custom zorst and decat however are perfect fit and no blow. Gaskets and gum used, spot on 8)

Well tried and tested not to use gaskets lol, never used gaskets on any of mien, and never had a problem, and never used gaskets on the numerious ones i've done for other people, and no one has complained about any blowing.....maybe you just have a shit de-cat?

If you are using gum whats teh point in using a gasket too? :? Think about it ;)

The gum on its own acts like the gasket, if the surfaces mate properly and you do them up nice and tight and dont' but about half a tube of the stuff on you'll be fine.

And remember exhaust putty takes time to go off so if you fit the de-cat and tehn go straight out and rag the nuts off it its just gonna blow the wet putty out

as stated it was a BB tuning one... so shit yeah lol (no excuse to do half a job Lunner  )

gum on it's own doesn't seal properly, i know this from personal experience, i'd expect somewhere to use both tbh, kwit shit did and they are monkeys... plus, if gum works as well why they still make gaskets 12 years on from the Willy?

Mine was done without gaskets and was good for a bit, then it went gay.

I have a Devil decat.

Might be because we have high powered cars Jesus ;)

No point ****in around for the sake of a few quid, as you will end up having to do it again with just putty, IMHO

Did you wet the surfaces first before applying the gum?

i didn't bother doing it mate, taken it to a few people, all specialists, but Mike didn't have any gaskets when i last went in, so used gum... there's nothing he doesn't know about cars let alone Reno's and said i'd need to bring it back in a couple of days to have gaskets put on... it lasted about a day and a half... I got a good month with gaskets and gum.

i leave him to do the biz, but I usually chill there for about an hour after chatting with Si, Adi or whoever else pops in, so it having time to seal is never a problem
