tried to pull away a bit quick last night, and all i got was revs, and not much movement, and now my clutch has stunk the whole car our, and still smelt when i went back to the car an hour later.

It has driven fine since, but i need to do a 120 mile round trip at the weekend, and i dont want to get stranded somewhere, as i have no RAC or AA cover!

is there anyway i can check to see if the clutch is ok, or on its way out?

Find a steepish hill,

do about 30mph up it in 5th gear. Floor it, and watch the rev's if it revs up with no real increase in speed your clutch is on its way out!

supposing my clutch is slipping and on its way out, what replacement should i buy?
BB tuning are a fair bit more than k tec prices, and i cant get hold of prima to get a price from them. and on GSF it doesnt list a 1.8 16v only th 8v! (RSI) i was thinking a group N one, because i have a 2 ltr bottome end to go on, but any help and suggestions please!

cheers every one, one last thing are there any benefits of paying extra for a group N one, my avg mileage is 5k or so a year, so it should last a fair while which ever one i use.

well, it pulled fine up the hill in 5th no massive revs, just like normal when your in the wrong gear!
some one also told me that if you put the car in 4th, and pull away, if it stalls the clutch is fine, but if it pulls away, the clutch is slipping?

mine pulled away!
confused.....

no no no, your spose to put your hand brake on, put in fourth and raise the clutch if it stalls all is good, if it slips your poo poo'd :D

tis wierd this clutch thing. its fine if you pop it in 5th uphill, the revs dont go mad, but the bitting point is right near the top of the pedal, and its hard to get a smooth gear change now. wanted to keep it going until the 2ltr was ready.....!
