Worth going to chipwizards?

Thinking of de-catting so is it worth it with the ITG, backbox and de-cat? What kind of gains could I expect?

That's what I'm thinking. Not really fussed about modding this one too much tbh, as I love it as it is, but just thinking I could get a little extra from the old girl.

Not worth doing if your gonna go for other mods in the future, but if decats your limit, why not 8)

Oh and get a full exhaust too :P

Always wanted a full devil but, tbh, the car needs to be useable without ear plugs. :P

unless you have a straight through powerflow

09-02-2006, 13:37
tbh i dont think Top Gear 'do' quiet

i'd get a full system Mike, decat will blow the baffles out the standard exhaust.

Swervin_Mervin
09-02-2006, 13:46
I don't have a standard exhaust though John. Or do you mean out the centre silencer?

J o n
09-02-2006, 13:50
center and backbox, if any of it is std, replace it imo. then get your remap if your not planning any other mods... or, save the £350 you were going to spend on the remap and be boring and get a 2.0 BE

2L suck balls. :P

I thought the very early valvers didn't have cats? I've just been checking o dialogys to see but can't get it to work.

J o n

no, all of them have cats and would be required by law. I dont know why people think they are exempt due to age as I was always told that "if the vehicle was manufactured after 1991 WITH a cat, then it's required to pass the MOT". I know some other early 1991 cars dont have them from the factory, but the 205GTI's that come with cats have to have them for the MOT also... pretty certain that if the car comes with one then it's required to have one for the MOT... but usually as long as emissions pass your okay.

3L then?

Swervin_Mervin
09-02-2006, 14:39
Ah right. I was under the assumption early ones didn't have them. Nevermind.

I love the 1.8 tbh, especially on track. I don't think it needs the 2L personally, but then I've still never driven a willy/hybrid.

It had no trouble keeping up with far quicker machinery at Elvington which, being open, should have given them even more of an advantage. And that was with me hooning a bit. Had I actually tried to drive as quickly as possible it could've been interesting.
:P

Plus, there are so few standard 1.8s that I feel it is my duty to champion their worth in their own right. Hence only doing a couple of slight tweaks.

Funny cars these. I fall out of love with the thing when it gets filthy and it's cold in this weather, but as soon as it's warm or it's on track I fall back in love with it again. :-&

I've been racking my brains recently as to what I'd buy if I had a few hundred quid spare a month, and I can't see me wanting rid just yet.

What's the best filter and decat to get then? The naples I am looking at has a full devil system on already :D

Oooooh you bitch. I'd like to hear that mofo in action mate.

J o n
09-02-2006, 15:42
Pikey, Devil are meant to be great, so are Powerflow (Burnley one) and Blue flame. For filters K&N and ITG seem to be the best, although nothing really to be gained here, just saves you changing it all the time lol.

Mike, what limiter you going for then, 7800 or 8000?

McPikie
09-02-2006, 15:53
Jesus, think i will go for an ITG panel replacement, none of this induction kit shite.

Gonna see wayne at chipwizards to when it's done.

Cams and TB's can wait until I have a bit spare in the bank................ **** the missus and her plans for a big wedding, we can have a registy office do and a fast car insted

J o n
09-02-2006, 16:14
Pikie, sorry mate, meant to say K&N panel replacement, open IK's will actually lose you power.

if you end up with a 1.8 and want to tune it remember to start with the 2.0 BE first.

as for the missus... she'll get over it

16v's with the engine code C575 didn't have a cat.
I never had a problem getting a MOT on the red 16v without a Cat.

Don't thinkthere's any point raising the limiter on the valver tbh. Unless Wayne can get anything useful out of it further up.

I find it gets a bit wheezy over 7k and tend to change before then on track. Only useful for exiting fast complexes at the top of the revs to ease slowing for corners and gearchanging. (like at elvington I was dropping from 4 to 3rd for one bit but doing the same speed through at 7k-7.1k just 'cos it was an easier gear change for the next corner.

Jesus, what's all this 2.0BE pap you keep warbling on about?

Is that the megan bototm end?

LOL!

Cheers Matt. Might go ask how much renault would want for the cat-less centre pipe.

I've got.....

Full magnex
decat
green element
supersprint fanimold

so a few more mods than you Merv, i'd get a exhaust etc before considering it. Wayne does ask what mods you've got and i'm sure he'd prob tell you its not worth it with a filter and backbox, BUT i may be wrong.

Gah - you got in there before me!

no, all of them have cats and would be required by law. I dont know why people think they are exempt due to age as I was always told that "if the vehicle was manufactured after 1991 WITH a cat, then it's required to pass the MOT".

fact.........its August 1992, so from K onwards

fact.........it doesnt have to have the cat fitted, it only has to pass the cat emissions test.....unlikely but has been done before

J o n
09-02-2006, 23:42
cat law seems unclear to me then, i was under the impression that if the car came with a cat it needed one for the mot regardless of when it came out, so the valver ones that came cat-less before whatever age would be okay? surprised all valver's didn't come with them from the factory tbh.

McPikie, any F7R bottom end mate... i'd get a megane one though, only because they are newer and usually have less miles than the Willy ones...

I may get one in the future for a sump up rebuild :D

I have a 1991 valver and it is a non cat model... from the factory

MatBrown
14-02-2006, 12:07
That should be an import then, as they were only available on the continent.
Does it say C575 on the oval plate?

Never bothered to look m8, but it aint got a cat and it passed the mot emissions check without a cat.

any car pre'92 did not need to have a cat fitted
