View Full Version : Do I Sell The Willy???

Guys,

As some of you might know, i've had a few probs with the Willy and i've pretty much had enough. So i'm thinking now is time to sell.

Thing is, it's not the mintest car around....rust, suspension probs plus a few little things...i've spent thousands on the engine including a rebuild with GDI 2 years back and i've maintained it ever since. I've had her checked over and I can't afford to get her sorted properly. The car does drive, and foot down it drives well. But like I said it's not the mintest car around.

I still want a willy, so the question is do I sell her as she is and buy another one...?

Or strip her and sell the parts, buy a high mileage Willy 3 and change the engine over?

I've been thinking about this all weekend and i'm still stuck on what to do...so help me decide peeps. The only thing is, I want a Willy 3, but I don't really want a sun roof, hence why i'm a bit reluctant to sell this one as you might know mine doesn't have one...but something is still telling me to sell.

HEEEEELLLLLP!!!

Death penalty!

Touch decision. Still I'd try to fix it. Selling it and buying a Williams 3 will probably cost you a lot of money too.

Thing is, there are alot of problems with the car.

Evidence shows that the car was in an accident so I don't know even if the shell is twisted - subframe bent etc.

Rear axle seems out - the near side wheel is further in then the other, bumper is half hanging off. Also rust on axle.

Rust - or shall I say rott is on the arches, dents and stone chips on the doors and bonnets,

Drives side Wheel seems to be out wider than passenger side.

Don't you think it would be cheaper to find a higher mileage Willy and change my engine over?

I'll try and take some pics to show exactly what I mean.

Its only a 3, strip it  *runs and hides lol*

You have the trade mark chip in the number plate same as me 8)

:P

It must of been proper neglectade to get like that. My valver has rusty arches but there no way that bad and its done 150k! As for the bumber, stick it back on lol.

Id keep it and sort it out mate, or sell it to me for a few hundred

wow. how did you get it that bad :?: id strip it for spares as there are better condition willys than that for around 1500. take the engine out and seek out a willy non runner with engine problem maybe. good luck anyhow.

That can be saved, new complete rear axle, fix the bumper back on and repair the arches and you'd get a lot more for it, plus you'd be saving a dieing breed

Ok, lets just say I did do that - how much am I looking at, rear axles, sorting out the front - cos I dunno what is exactly wrong with that, and a fully respray, new front bumper also?

:( damn that looks poorly. in dire need of restoration.

as for parts... get a 2nd hand rear beam off mat brown if he has any :?: only six bolts to remove

get new front wishbones , struts , springs etc for a few £100 quid. you could have that lot changed in a weekend easily

the arch is the major issue there, it looks a touch unhealthy! but in many ways its better the devil u know with cars this age! if the geometry of the chassis is okay then may b worth stickin with it?

The geometry is way out...camber cast and toe are all out. Had this checked in December on the Sun system.

wounded! :(

looks like a strip n break for parts u dont want n transplant good stuff to a solid willy, or hybrid a worthy valver shell!!

If I go hybrid, then i'd want one with a willy wide track...
Still unsure what to do exactly, i'm all ears for options...

What kind of offers would you consider sensible??

I don't mean half a mars bar and a empty can of panda pop

Well the engine alone cost me 2K for the work including cams.

From what i've been told minimum I could get for the engine, ECU and gear box would be easy £1500 if I broke it....
