Thread fro group buy is on Cliosport. Not much good to me there. Im interested but i need to know price, cost, waiting time, and i want to know exactly what im getting and an exact weight with paint.

:D

cost for a bonnet from group buy on CS will be £325.

weight saved on a std bonnet is 9kg , but i cant give you a weight for a painted one as I havent got any madeup/painted.

bonio
19-03-2005, 12:28
as for timescale , allow 2- 3 weeks for delivery , all bonnets are made by hand

KingStromba

If a standard bonnet is 17 kgs, id need some kind of assurance that the bonnet will weigh 10kg's or less when painted.

Also what issues are there with painting a carbon bonnet? Paint flake off?

Will the bonnet take the heat from the engine? It wont warp?

This needs to look completely standard. Will i have assurance that the bonnet will look exactly as a standard metal bonnet?

Cheers

bonnet will deffo be under 10kg , just ask winston....

as for paint , treat as normal FG , you will obviously have to discuss the finer details with your paint sprayer

KingStromba
19-03-2005, 12:39
Ok im in then. Subject to me getting approval from Nick Hill and my body shop man re painting

Will the bonnet be ok with the heat?

Whats the deposit?

Can you list here exactly what im getting?

What bits are carbon, what glass?

bonio
19-03-2005, 12:44
bonnets are fine with the heat , vent still used as normal

top of bonnet is carbon 100% with the unfinished carbon weave showing on underside

Frame is FG and all mountings are fabricated and bonded on.

Carbon frame is available at extra cost - + £100

KingStromba
19-03-2005, 12:47
Does carbon frame just strengthen it or does it remove more weight?

Also what radio interference issues are there?

bonio
19-03-2005, 12:59
Carbon would add some strength but you would be hard pushed to notice the difference.

it would also reduce the weight but ,only by 1/2 kg or so.

KingStromba
19-03-2005, 13:03
So do i get a guarantee that the heat will not warp the bonnet?

Also what about radio interference?

summeh

hmm I might also be interested in this for when I get my full respray.... gotta see where i can find the money from :)

summeh
20-03-2005, 03:34
bonio, you say a carbon frame would reduce weight by 1/2 Kg or so, do you mean by that half a Kg, or 1 or 2 Kg's?

summeh
20-03-2005, 03:36
If it was 1 or 2 Kg's I might be interested in a carbon frame, but I'd need to know exact weight saving.

I fancy one of these too, noticed a couple of small dents on my bonnet and so am looking to replace, this sounds ideal (would save me having to shed 9+kg from my waist too).

How about boot lids and front wings? (engines, seats wheels? )

Where are you based and how much for del to leics?

summeh
20-03-2005, 10:36
What would be the point in front wings? They are already made from plastic so you probably wouldn't save anything? Infact they might be heavier???

Interestingly my mates 1.2 RL has metal front wings, thought all clio's had plastic wings, my RT did.

dezmondo
20-03-2005, 11:37
Yeah, I though that myself after I had sent it

My girlfriend has got a 1.2 Bebop (which I am using at the moment much to the hilarity of my mates) and that has metal wings (i know this because she drove into someone and now has a huge dent!!

My Clio Cup has plastic wings too and in a side on bump with an idiot changing lanes without looking the other day, they came out unscathed!!!

Want a Carbon roof like the BMW M3 CSL too!!

Bootlid was good idea don't you think?

Winston
20-03-2005, 12:43
Bootlids are on there way....50% saving in weight like the bonet

dezmondo

Just hope I have enough cash left once I have done all the other work!!!

I suppose if I do spend loads, the missus will leave me, reducing yet more weight on the journeys she would normally be with me on

I guess thats a no then?

summeh

Yes this is normally the best way to improve your ride, just think, you'll be cutting back on not only weight, and fuel economy, but cost to your wallet aswell. This extra cash can then be fed back into improving your car. :D

summeh
20-03-2005, 14:50
i'd also be interested in a carbon fibre boot lid...

Strombone, how much does a boot lid weigh?

KingStromba
20-03-2005, 14:54
17 kg's

summeh
20-03-2005, 14:55
is that including the glass, or just the metal frame on its own? I would have thought it be quite a bit heavier than the bonnet?

KingStromba
20-03-2005, 14:56
Thats everything

summeh
20-03-2005, 14:59
ah right ok so as glass weighs quite a bit your not gonna be saving as much as a carbon bonnet then :/

summeh
20-03-2005, 15:00
Hmm, i seem to have started a quest for weight reduction, this is addictive, i've just got rid of my spare wheel and wheel cage, and replced it with a can of tyre weld, saving about 10kg's i think! (i have an alloy spare).

KingStromba
20-03-2005, 15:00
Dont really see the point of taking more weight off the rear of the car. Id be more interested in taking weight from around that big heavy 2.0 L engine.

summeh
20-03-2005, 15:02
I did think about this, and moving the battery into the boot will give you +5Kg at the rear -5Kg at the front.

summeh
20-03-2005, 15:03
Its also a very easy modification, all you need to do is run a single fat wire through the bulk head and to the boot, mount the battery and earth it.

KingStromba
20-03-2005, 15:08
Is it worth it. Unless your a top rally driver you wont notice **** all, and your boot will look gay.

interference is not a problem and the bonnet wont warp

KingStromba

Do i get a guarante the bonnets wont warp?

I was promised I definatley would get my bonnet this saturday, (today)apparently it has been shipped during the week, but it is now 16:07 and i am really starting to get pissed off, weekend after weekend i have sat inside waiting in anticipation and its just incompetence really, if anyone wants one of these bonnets, i suggest you order it now so you will have one for 2007.

John

lol...well all i can say is good luck.

I once wanted to buy some car ramps that had a bottle jack in. the guy who desigend them had backing from the welsh inovation group or what ever its called...and to get the money to manafacture them and start up his business they had to be made in wales.

Anyway my order was placed and payed from in July last year....september came and went and this is with several phone calls a week....then i got them in october and they were shocking. Bent to hell and looked really bad...i got him to take them back and i got my money back.

What a poor service....lie after lie i had.

Hence why i said are they welsh....heehee

KingStromba

Indeed, davids a diamond geezer......just seems to get let down by other people

No money has exchanged hands for the above bonnet........people need to learn to wait to get the sick shit.

I have told him about the engine mount cover jon, he said he is running a fresh batch off soon so not to worry :D.

Carbonnuts going to be big baby :D

Stromba don't loose faith
