Hi.

Seeing as the oil is essentialy the heart of the engine I'm slightly worried about my Valver. The engine is a 65k lump fitted by "5 Alive"

Anyway, the oil temp gauge doesn't work, but the oil pressure does.

At about 3k rpm, the oil pressure as around the 3bar mark and it sits at about 1Bar on idle but slolwy drops after a few minutes but a blip on the throttle will see it rise up again..

I only really use the car for short journeys (10-15 minutes) and the oil is starting to look a bit scummy (going black and smells of petrol a bit)

I don't know if this is nomral though. 'On song' the pressure seems fine and goes way above 3bar.

Also how hard is it to fix the Oil temp gauge? As I'd really like this too work.

I also have some 10-40w Comma lite to go in, but can't get the oil filter off. Can get my hands around it but it won't turn (don't have much room for movement though). Isn't there a good tool I can buy as I dont want to jam a screw driver through ti.

So, can you peeps shed some light on my problems please?

Cheers :)

Those kinda figures sound normal.

Does it hit around 6Bar on cold start up?

Cool.

At idle on cold start it sits just below 2bar.

That's on 1.2k idle.

Cheers.

So what does that mean?

If it's that low?

Looks about right, especially if you only use it for 15mins each time; the engine can't warm up properly.

Cheers mate.

But what about the cold start idle pressure?

Btw the car has oil (obviously) but it's about half way between max and Min. Also I had to top it up when i bought it with some spare oil I had, so I don't know if they were different grades etc and maybe causing a problem?

I have been meaning to put the COmma in but like I say, can't get the filter off.

Cheers.

try some oil filter pliers, thats what my mechanic uses to get mine off, the other types are near impossible to use on these cars

from a cold start your oil pressure is only 2bar ?......are you sure ?......a proper cold start, left overnight ?

I'm pretty sure your cold idle pressure shouldn't be about 5-6bar either.

I'll check mine tomorrow as it's been sat since saturday arvo and it's got a thick frost layer on it.

Well it was left all night and all day today. Tried it at about 8Pm.

But what about the cold start idle pressure?
My car never sees air temperatures below 25C, but, FWIW, morning start-up oil presure is slightly above 3bar. After idling for less than 1 minute, it drops to 2.5bar and I drive off. Once the oil is fully warmed, idling pressure varies between 0.25bar (after spirited driving) and 0.8bar (after commute driving).

The oil pressure is also dependent on the oil used. Even with the same rating numbers, different brands of oil can vary by about plus/minus 0.5 bar. And, obviously, air temp should also affect it, but I haven't a clue about that.

Checked mine this morning. Started at 2.5bar and after 10 mins of idling was at 2bar. I use 10W40.

I noticed mine the other day down the motorway @ 110 was on reading 2bar and when I stopped it was just above 0bar lol, oil temp was 120 :)

Should really fit an oil cooler me thinks.

That seems low pressure for cold starting. Mine goes to the top of the gauge when I start it from cold and it takes a good 15 mins before it warms up.

See ya

mine sits at 3 bar for most things.

Never goes below 2 bar i dont think. Certainly not to these low pressure of 0.2 - 0.8 bar that you guys are mentioning.

Oil temp stays around 100.

mine goes to top of gauge at cold then drops to 2 then rev at 3000 goes to 3500 then when realy warm (run loads goes to 1) only gone to 0 when was a really hot day like last year but it was very hot and the cooolant had not been changed

.. also get rid of that comma oil use shell or valvolean any good 10-40 .. (not magna crap ) my mate had that coma in his 172 was right grade just was so noisey and did not run right.. he has a shell oil in now and running sweat...
