Some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago that I was having trouble with reverse gear after changing engines. I got my car back from the garage today and the report was bad! They told me that something has either moved in the gearbox or a selector spring has gone meaning the linkage goes past reverse and hits the top (inside of the gearbox) Great! Why is it french!!

Get a second opinion....
Speak to Winston too, he may have a few g/boxes around..
i had a new gearbox and clutch but thats because it lost all its oil and i drove it at top speed on a private road burning it out, linkage/selector shouldn't mean a new box though?
although labour will still be high i think.
soz to hear that I think it is a common problem on these though?

I had a linkage problem not long after I first got the Valver early last year and though the worst...
It cost £300 inc labour to sort and it's been fine ever since, i paniced and there was really no need... double check first!

I went to a second garage and they told me the same thing as the first garage.
Winston/infinicar do not have any clio 16v gearboxs in stock atm!
Great!

gsf do recon ones for circa £400, personally wouldn't buy a secondhand one, may be the same or worse than the one you have
