Ive got a tonne of play in my steering, so to fix it do i need a new steering rack or new steering column?
I was thinking of bidding on this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4605644706&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
but does it have all that i need? Will it then be a case of unbolt old steering rack/UJ joint and bolt that one in?

check al bolts in the steering components are fully tight then investigate column welding options

Might also be the tracking rods......I've been told they can contribute.
Pull teh rubber boot up at teh bottem of the column and grip each side and try to twist, if there is play here the UJ on teh column has gone and eassiest way is to get ti welded up in the car

cheers for the replies guys, i'll check out those suggested issues..
How hard is it to bolt in a new steering rack & UJ? That one on ebay looks to be going cheap, and i would probably end up paying more for it to be welded as i cant weld.

That rack is from a J reg tho, do TBF i'd rather weld up the original column, its really really easy to do, look up in the footwell and remove the rubber boot, the weld up the UJ, a mobile welder will do it cheap as would a local garage.

oh right, thought it was in the engine bay that needed welding
in that case i'll probably just get it welded up on the cheap, as its not as big a job as i thought lol
Cheers!
If you do need a new rack i have one i'm trying to shift

i'll bear that in mind, though i wont be needing it until march time as thats when im rebuilding the Clio..
Hi mate ive just welded my column up at the weekend, as it had more slack then nora batties pants. Its great now feels brill.
Well worth it and much better then paying for a new column.
