Been meaning to register on here for a while after Swervin told me of the site. About time their was a site dedicated to the Williams as I must admit I got a bit bored of all the topics on Cliosport .

It used to be interesting a couple of years ago , but now it seems to be all about neons , 60mm lowering kits and bad bodykits .

Anyway I have had Clios for a few years on and off with the first one being a Willy 3 and my current one being a Willy/16v hybrid tarmac rally car.

Although I havent really been on track the last year or so I am looking to get back into it this year with the Clio and an e30 Alpina C1.

Hi, oh and KS driving like that he does'nt have the tyres long enough to comment

Firstly I have never used coilovers on the Clios so I couldnt rightly comment on that . I have had springs custom made for the front and harder dampers on the rear which is about all I think needs doing to improve what is essentially a near perfect set-up to start with . Bear in mind that the mods are for track and competition use as I dont really think the standard set-up (in good condition) can be improved for the road.

As for the tyres. I actually use a mix of 195/50 on the front and 185/55 on the rear for the track . The higher profile tyres on the rear enable the sidewalls to bend a bit more enabling the rear to be drift easier . Whilst on the fronts I like a stiff sidewall to enable lightning turn in.

For the road , I dont think it makes much difference . I tend to go with 195/50's as they are slightly cheaper and more decent tyres are available in that size . Tyre pressures probably make a bigger difference than the actual size of the tyre though.

Excellent Merv . Thanks for that one . One of the first lessons I learnt . Do not try to handbrake turn on gravel on cars with abs as it does sweet FA whilst travelling at 45 degree angles.

First started driving on track about 3 years ago , but unfortunately dont really have much in the way of videos . I do have about 15 mins of in-car from Oulton Park last year which is on DVD .

Havent really been on track much the last couple of years due to business commitments , but did start rallying at the end of last year . Only done 2 events so far .

The first was a complete flop with the gearbox mounts breaking 40 secs into the first stage and I had to drop out as I didnt have the spares available. Whilst the 2nd rally went a lot better if also a lot more expensive . Managed to finish 1st in class and 2nd overall , but had to nurse the car for the last 2 stages (losing over a minute in the process) as the diff was knackered and the gearbox had spewed all its oil out.

Just putting the car back together now with new Kangoo van g/box with 4.22 final drive .

You keeping it Mark and doing more rallies in it?

Mark_Ritchspeed
18-03-2005, 14:39
Hard to say . I have been offered a fair price for it the other day and I keep looking at the Alpina sat in the garage and then picturing that out on the stages and on track .

Swervin_Mervin
18-03-2005, 14:41
Well the Alpina is very cool.

The clio would make a very cool addition to our stand at the FCS BTW.
