Martin
20-01-2006, 23:41
nope not at all..will be fine on yours

FATBOY
21-01-2006, 00:17
but martin do you run a risk of damaging the engine with one of these on a standard (well only got a decat and ss zorst) engine????

The F7R engine will rev to 7300 rpm IIRC without any damage to the bottom end. This is the limit on the std bottom end, that is more than enough revs to play with even with some quite severe cams!

Forged pistons and conrods should give you around 8krpm to play with, then your getting into rally spec engines!

Handy to have a few extra revs for 1/4miling where changing gear at 7k will mean higher revs in the next gear!

VIPERONE
21-01-2006, 02:02
ive had it at 7800 lol not anymore with my new chip

stew

NUTTER!

IIRC to what craig was saying...7300rpm is basically what it is safe to run a std F7R bottom end at!

Not sure if anyone on here is hardcore enough to run forged pistons and conrods....anyone even with lightened and balanced bottom end?

I like the 7krpm limit as its easy to find on the valver dials! (Not that i dont hit it every so often!  )

if fitting one of these chips to a valver are you likely to see worse fuel economy ?

26-01-2006, 02:02
yes.

theyl be running rich to provide the extra poke...

VIPERONE
26-01-2006, 17:44
LOL. i can alter the map to run lean or rich.. and fiddle with limiter settings...
Im developing a eprom switch to i can piggy back the original eprom to mine :-) for a bit of fun.

but the main reason is so that i can run an MOT chip... lol.

2 live
26-01-2006, 21:10
but ul then need a rolling road to sort out the map for the individuasl characteristics of each engine.wot runs lean on 1 may be rich on another.

VIPERONE

lol thats why i have sent out 2 chips to every buyer so far.

:-p one different to the other.

also got ferrarri maps,cosworths,etc lol

How do you tell if it is running lean or rich? Do you just try each chip and see which is better?

just a few questions gunner....

if i were 2 get cams after buyin 1 of ur chips wud i then need a diferent chip or wud a remap b fine?

also any idea how much 1 of these wud cost 2 b fitted along with a remap?

wot happens wen it cums 2 MOT time?

and finaly :P will the insurence pick up on this or will they not notice ie if they were 2 check my car out after an accident say?

thanks :)

Every car that comes out of the factory will be slightly difference in component and engine tolerence..its strange how the power can range even though cars are identicle...

ideally a custom remap on the rollers is the best way to go.. cost circa £400

My chips are better than standard , the higher limiter and altered fuelling makes a difference.. fuelling and ignition is altered at pre determined points on the map.. striking a balance between the correct fuelling & ignition time and getting the air fuel ratio to remain in the stoich band is what needs achieving ideally.

got my gunner chip in and running after selecting the best on my car.
the chip gives a noticable increase in torque and power, obviously the increased rev limit is noticeable! the power delivery throughout the revrange is very smooth, the power is there no matter where you press the throttle, the delivery is great! it gives more power than i expected aswell! it also seems to be more economical aswell! when driving around town and the likes it seems to use less petrol but when the boots down it uses more!
for performance > £££'s id say this is a bargain!
£50 is nothing for what your getting!
79p for a 28pin carrier from maplins and soldering it in is easy and simple!
most performance you will get for £50!

Plattsy, did you solder the chip in yourself? Also from what I can gather Gunner is sending people two versions of the chip and then you try both to see which one suits your car better.......is this correct?

to map a chip on to a car it has to be done down at the rolling road.... yeah i sent him 2 chips..

one cams the other not.. iirc he said one ran poo the other is the above one..

Mattie
31-01-2006, 16:45
has plattsy got cams? which chip did he choose in the end? chip 4 cams or the 1 4 without cams?

VIPERONE
02-02-2006, 12:30
i dunno..

now included is the chip carrier... all 30 of them arrived this morning.

Plattsy
02-02-2006, 12:43
now thats the problem you see, i was swapping them over and the ink smudged off the one that was for without cams so ive no idea which one ive got in lol. the one which ran poo had a quite lumpy idle and a bit sketchy through rev range although slightly smoother delivery than standard. semed a little more responsive and quicker but wasnt overall happy with it so swapped it and the otherone was alot better!
Mods i have are:
Supersprint,
Decat,
Janspeed Cat Back
ITG Panel Filter
and now of course the gunner chip
Now speed before was limited to 132mph, have now seen 140mph with this chip on my private test ground. was testing speed terminal from point to point. prev best before chip was 122mph. had a pretty poor run missing 4th gear and backing off before point B and achieved 128mph! will be going out to test later on if that can be improved!
