i'd go S3 mate.they are class looking and not as common as the rest.
the cabin is appealing and the leather soft.
they may not offer the "driving appeal"of the others but they aint far off.

And as for being quicker than a willy :?:
put a willy/hybrid or similar hatch in the wet and see who ends up in the ditch first

at 150mph you can read the newspaper get a blow job and still have time to enjoy the view in the rear mirror.what more do you want!!

m3 is a bit of kit and BMW are real drivers cars. Sadly most are driven by pillocks, but its the one I would go for.

How about:

E30 M3
Evo 2,3
Elise/VX220 of some sort

S3s are really dull BTW.

Evo 6 Tommy Mac they're the best looking Evos made, at least they look like rally cars rather than the dull as ditchwater ones they make now.

See ya

Let me try put things into perspective for you.

the beemer is an old lads car.
the itchy pussy will never let you sleep at night.
the cossie...cream crackers car.

the audi, pretty much perfect for someone coming out of a class hatch(williams :D ) and looking for something with more power safety and comfort.
And with 220bhp as most experienced drivers know, knock the traction control off and see how dull it is then
It will take getting used to as the power is delivered smoothly but all in all its a great car.(really shouldnt be put in this list of cars anyway)

Zollo
18-01-2006, 16:09
Or...

The M3 because it has a great engine that sounds awesome, and has a decent rwd chassis.

The Evo because it's fast as **** in almost every situation.

The Cossie because it's a modern classic that won't depreciate much at all, is rare, can be made to be very fast, and is quite an involving drive.

Or the S3 because it has a good image with people who like a car for its badge, has bullet proof mechanicals, has good build quality, hasZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

If anyone remembers the lad with the STI PPP scoob from the RE day last year, he bought a S3 after crasjing the scoob and he's bored after only a couple of months.

Better off getting an LCR if you go down that route.

J o n
18-01-2006, 16:32
thing is Fab that most people on here are lunatics and an S3 would probably be a bit dull once pimp factor has worn off and the wow factor has disappeared. I've not been in anything really that provides the same enjoyment and perfect balance of driver feedback, even the legendry 205GTI I found to be a rather dull place... if i'm brutally honest I'd go as far to say it was shit, give me a valver instead any day of the week!

once you get a car like the Williams some people instantly gel with it, other see it as a car, drive it and sell it... unfortunately I love the car to the point where I spend crazy amounts of money and cant bring myself to replace it... i'll happily buy another car, but the Willy will still be the car that has me looking for the keys on a weekend... also when you love the car you tend to want to improve it and there is pretty much no limit to how far you can go, even basic mods see good gains and they can be made into real track weapons with the added advantage of being quicker than most real world cars you will encounter day to day.

fab
18-01-2006, 18:44
never told you why I sold it did I???

i got bored of it also.but I bore easily with cars as I do women.
:P :P
thats why i have the willy @ home in the garage for some real play time

Seriously though the Audi is a very good everyday real world car which you can depend on and it wont let you down.
That concept to some people is more important than boy racing around the streets or being stuck on a motorway waiting for the RAC.
When 1 of you take an S3 out for a decent long drive get back to me and let me know your experience cause for me it is a very good sports hatch and should not be categorised/compared with a saloon or rally spec car as listed above.

well tbh i think its really btween the evo and the cossie.cossie is cheaper insurance by few hundred and im only plannng on keeping it til crimbo as im off to australia for a while then so was thinking cossie would be best choice to keep its value.might go ttest drive both, only think that sways the cossie is fact i always wanted 1 since i was 15 and i think realistically this is only chance il get 2 get 1 for at least few years.....hmmm decisions

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I have respected the opinions of members on this forum because they know what they are on about"When they stick to talking about clios"because that is the car they own or drive.

However for numskulls to say that a car is"shit"is pathetic especially when they havent owned one to begin with.
It seems to me that they prefer to ridicule people's actual experience in order to boost their own self esteem.how sad.

Lads,to me its been a good time but the good time's dont last and I guess its time to call it a day.I'd prefer to keep it as a happy memory than to continue reading garbage like that.Sorry.
See you all in another lifetime perhaps.

i would love an evo5 i got an insurance quote on a completely standard one b4 christmas and they wanted £800 fully comp and i had to get a tracker fitted as well... By the way i am 29yrs old and have never had a claim since i have been driving. i pay £400 on the willy but can't bring myself to pay double that iknow the evo will be a lot quicker but i think that is a little too much

Fab, Gayjesus was referring to the 205 GTi as shit, after driving one. Shouldn't let it upset you that much anyway, it's only a car

Chill out dude. I don't think anyone said they were shit, just a bit dull, which you agreed with.

Plus I think a few of us here have a much wider driving experience than clios. :)

all the Cossie and Evo people should be shot... how can you pick those pretenders over a proper RWD sports car? ...chavs...

Fab, dunno if that was aimed at me, but like Matt says, I have driven a 205 and thought it was crap... as a hot hatch I have several others to compare it to that I have driven and I was disappointed... you have your views, I have mine, but I don't slate cars just for the sake of it... unless it's one of them 1*2 items or a chav chariot.

Chris H
19-01-2006, 12:37
^^^^your right the 205 is shite, most over rated pile of pish ever. I am no fan of the clio but its a far more capable machine than the 205.

J o n
19-01-2006, 12:48
yeah, don't really know what all the fuss was about myself... but then again I've found that with a fair few supposed decent car's I have driven... Subaru's have never excited me either... I guess I'm just not a fan of understeer on 4WD cars or snap oversteer from FWD cars... maybe it just takes time to get used to them, but when I got in the Willy it was just harmony

Chris H
19-01-2006, 13:04
the scoob you try and love but if you ever get a go in an evo its worlds apart, the evo wins easily.

205 is beaten by the 309 gti in my opinion.

J o n
19-01-2006, 13:09
had a good go in my mates UK classic with mods... has all the Pro Drive bollocks on the suspension etc but it handles shit, although the grip was unreal... deceptive drive though, go into corners slow, but grip coming out makes you think your a handling god... driven a P1, that was better, but it was being run in and could only rev to 3k or so rpm :? which sucked...

never had a go in a 309... don't think i'd really want to tbh, it reminds me of an R19 and I much prefer the R19... i'd feel embarrassed climbing into a 309

Chris H
19-01-2006, 13:11
scoob is flattering, good at 4 wheel drifts though. But power wise and go wise they are not that great!

Scood is good as the brake lines etc run inside the car and stuff, prevents them gettign ripped off going to the farmershouse, not for ripping through rally stages as everyone thinks!

Cheap nasty cars though, the interiors are awful.

J o n
19-01-2006, 13:15
i love the look of the classic and may still end up with one... but the only model i'd want is the redtop RA spec... not for the pink badges in case your wondering... lol

they impress you speed wise when your sat in the passenger seat having the torque play mind games with you... but it's only when in a cam'd willy with rev limit increase and 2 passengers (to the scooby's no passengers) that you realise how pish they really are... fook all until 120 where he pulls 2 cars... before he starts getting reeled in again... my mates sold it now, but is after a Clio... lol

Chris H
19-01-2006, 13:20
bug eye was their biggest mistake, suppose it kept the classic's values up though. pretty cheap these days, get a turbo for 2 grand if you look hard enough.

Boy a few doors down got 3 smacked one, all in £2800 hes got an STI in a 1.6 bodyshell with all the turbos body gear. And a very iffy respray as well.

When theres no wheelspin it always feels quicker. Suzuki Vitari dump the clutch it feels quick cos it pulsl away sharp, no wheel spin, but its not fast!

J o n
19-01-2006, 13:23
yeah, they are all worth peanuts now really... been offered an STi 3 RA for £2k.... tempting

Chris H
19-01-2006, 13:24
clitoris car though, every cunts got one!

J o n
19-01-2006, 13:45

J o n
19-01-2006, 13:57
... but they suck, whats the point in making a FWD car that can drift, but doesn't have enough power to safely correct it? maybe an MI16 would be a better prospect.

Zollo
19-01-2006, 14:46
That's a good point, but personally I've never had a problem with the lack of power.

...saying that, I stuffed one in a hedge due to lift-off once, so that's not entirely true

J o n
19-01-2006, 15:23
lol, it was just a car I didn't get to grips with, just seemed to have a good chassis and poor suspension or engine, as something didn't tally up quite right... or maybe it's listening to people say how good it is and me expecting a near perfect compromise of power and handling... however after stepping straight out of a Williams into one it was a shock... I wanted to like it, I really did...

Zollo
19-01-2006, 15:42
Or maybe the one you drive was a bit too tired or modified? The ones I have experience of have been quite low mileage, but I can imagine driving one now wouldn't be that nice, as they don't age well.

It's not that it's an amazingly fast or capable car. As you say, it's pretty slow nowadays. Looking at it rationally, they're not that great a car. The Williams is a more capable and more refined car, so why would you think they'd be any good?

It's just that they're so raw and lairy. Pin-sharp manual steering, ultra-sensitive throttle response, amazingly adjustable chassis, lift-off oversteer, mega-quick gear change, loads of feedback 8)

I'm off to elvington next saturday and hope to get a p-ride in both an E30 M3 and an E34 M5. There's 2 of each going. Matt (the white 106 Rallye at Ty Croes) has just got himself the M3. 8)

Matt....I'm jealous :(

I've passengered in plenty of E30 M3s, and they always seem really nicely balanced, if not all that fast. Driven a 3.6 M5 that was actually in pretty good nick, and it was definately fast. Still felt a bit baggy though, but nothing a few grand wouldn't fix!

Make sure you get plenty of vid action of Matt in the M3, should be spectacular 8)

Swervin_Mervin

Will do. 8) There's a few intersting cars. A mk1 MR2, a totally stripped VR6(I think) mk1 Golf, 2 M5s, 2 M3s.

Oh yeah, forgot to add I've never driven a RWD car (apart from learning to drive in a really old 1L Starlet (I think they were RWD) and a brief uni ownership of a Shove-it estate) so have no idea of how an old E28 M535 would drive. :P
