I did mine today, really easy to do. Although it didn't cure the problem as the drive i took out was in good nick, must the cable or dials that are worn :(

I used the long screw and screwed it into the old drive, then using some needle nose pliers pulled the screw and it popped out, the just drop the new en in and push it back down, then pop the speedo cable back in, if you still can't do it, i'll do it for ya

pull out speedo cable and remove large white platic guide clip to expose drive. use a mirror or similar to see the white platic insert that ur replacing in the hole. get the long nose in there n grasp it FIRMLY. then ensure you pull at exactly the same angle as the insert, not straight up. this was my mistake n when i realigned it came out fine! drop the new clip on and push with the pliers till it goes no further! replace cable and clip! job done!

squeeze it slightly and it comes out easily. Unless....

the tip of the speedo cable can break off in the box thus trapping the bits you need to get out.

the big white clip has two locating/holding bits at the bottom, tiny things, so i just squeezed it so that they released, that big clip was reasonably easy tho! if u got problems just with that then not sure whats going on!!!

if thats not coming out chances are the end of the cable is stuck in there. when you pulled the cable out did it have a nice snug fitting ally bit with an o-ring round it?

Mattie

that big white bit comes pretty easily for me today, however the small bit which is inside, did not want to come out at all!!!!

Gunner whats the trick? I am going to try and get winston to take a look at it when i go over next week, it did not want to come out, even with twisting and turning and pulling with long nose pliers???? :?

You don't need to take that outer plastic ring off. Just screw a long wood screw in bit your taking out and replacing and tug with pliers. Really is as simple as that.
